Thank you for showing an interest in joining our staff as part of our "Work Crew". Work Crew is available for those students
who are entering 8th grade through 12th grade in the fall of 2010. Everyone who is interested in being a part of our camp must
fill out and return
this application. This is also needed from those who have been assistants in the past. This will serve as a great tool to let
everyone know what we expect of our work crew and also it gives me a chance to have the opportunity to learn a little more
about each of you! Please complete the application and email it back to us. We will contact you
to let you know that we can use your assistance or that we are full. This is an excellent way to earn community service hours
required for clubs or graduation. It is also a wonderful
opportunity to mentor kids! These positions are limited and fill quickly, so please get your application in as soon as
possible.
The most important qualifications are that you have a love and respect for our Lord and his children, a desire to assist in
leading children in a positive, nurturing way to learn about the talents which they each possess, an ability to be a team
player, and the desire to serve the teacher you are assigned to in any way.
The Duties and Responsibilities of our "Work Crew"
- Be present at all "Work Crew" meetings that will be held during camp days, before or after camp.
- Arrive each camp day on this schedule: Monday at 8:00 a.m. This will give the Work Crew time to meet with their teacher to know what they
will need to do that day. Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. for pictures. Wednesday through Friday at 8:30 a.m.
- At 8:45 each morning the Work Crew will go to carpool drop off to receive the campers and deliver them to their classes.
- Walk the campers to the Lunch Room along with your assigned teacher at lunchtime and sit with your class during lunch. The Work Crew will assist the campers during lunchtime in any way they may need help. This is your lunchtime too, so you will need to bring a lunch and a drink each day. The Work Crew will not have an opportunity to leave the campus during the day, so you will need to bring your lunch with you in the morning.
- Reinforce the loving and nurturing environment of the classroom.
- Work closely with your assigned teacher to meet the needs of the children.
- At the end of the camp, 2:30 p.m. go with the teacher and the campers to carpool pick up. Stay with the campers at all times.
- At the completion of carpool, return to the classroom with the teacher to prepare the room for the next day. The Work Crew will vacuum the classroom, and take the trash out.
- The Work Crew members will be responsible to keep the rest rooms clean and ready for the next day. We will have a schedule for the Work
Crew members to take turns. This will mean to wipe out and clean the sinks, make sure the toilets are left clean, plenty of toilet paper and
paper towels available and take the trash out. We are typically done around 3:30 p.m.
- On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after camp, we offer a mini Bible study message. All work crew members meet in a room TBA for
refreshments and a brief message. We encourage everyone to stay, but remaining is optional.
- On Thursdays, all Work Crew members and staff will stay after carpool to set up the art show in the Fellowship Hall. The classrooms and restrooms will also be prepared as usual for the next day. Refreshments will be provided on Thursday afternoons and we should be done by 5 p.m. at the latest.
After set-up is completed and all classrooms are ready for Friday classes, all Work Crew members are invited to go to dinner together. The faculty members who facilitate the Bible Study will go with the Work Crew members. Location for dinner will be announced that week. Remember to bring money for dinner and let us know during the week if you will need a ride to the restaurant. You will need to arrange for your parents to pick you up if you do not drive. We always have a great time together. Hope you'll plan to join us!
- On Fridays, work with the teachers to be sure the classroom is ready for the children to return for the Friday evening program and Monday's class.
- On Fridays, all Work Crew members are expected to return at 5:45 for our Friday evening program. At the completion of the program, please plan to stay to tear down all props, etc. used for the program. We are usually done by 8:30 p.m.
- We will also be accepting Work Crew for our set up week which will be June 14 - 18. Work Crew can sign up for as many weeks that you are able to work.
- If you are available Saturday, June 12, we can use more help with our move in. We will load the truck at Joanie's house and then take
everything and unload it at the church. This should only take a few hours.
Please be sure to select weeks that you are able to attend camp Monday through Friday. (This needs to include Thursday afternoons and Friday evenings.)
This completes the duties of the Work Crew. If you have any further questions, please email them to us. Be sure to complete the application and email it back to us as soon as possible.
Please be aware there is a dress code for our Work Crew at Discovery Camp and Wee Discover. Keeping in mind that you are
mentoring the campers of Discovery Camp, our dress code is an important element. Our camp is a fun, summer camp and we do a lot
of different activities to include cooking, painting, acting, etc....so we want our workers as well as our campers to be
comfortable.
For our female helpers, we must say that we do not want to see short shorts or short tops. Some people refer
to the short shorts as chearleader type shorts or the athletic shorts. There is a place for those types of shorts and
little tops, but Discovery Camp is not the place. T-shirts are fine as well as regular tops, but please be sure that your stomachs
or midriffs are not visable. If you choose to wear jeans, these are fine also.
For guys who help as a member of our Work Crew, we ask that there be no baggy pants or shorts that fall off. We are aware that some people
really enjoy this style, however it would not be appropriate for camp.
In the past we have had to ask people to go home and change, and it puts us in a very uncomfortable position. We love our teenagers and many of
you who have helped in the past know that we could never do the camp without the assistance of our Work Crew, but please know that the Dress
Code must be followed.
No Cell Phones or
Texting will be allowed during camp hours. Cell Phones should not be visable.
I thank you again and look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely, Joanie Forbes
